Sony Interactive Entertainment and developer Housemarque have announced that the third-person action game, *Saros*, will launch for the PlayStation 5 on March 20, 2026.

*Saros* is a dream project from a dream team. The gameplay shown is captured on PlayStation 5 at 60fps using Unreal Engine 5 and is still a work in progress. Players can expect tweaks, fixes, and upgrades when playing *Saros* on PlayStation 5 or enhanced on PlayStation 5 Pro in 2026.

### The Shape-Shifting Planet of Carcosa

The events of *Saros* take place on Carcosa, a hostile, shape-shifting alien planet that changes with every player death. It offers a wide variety of environments and enemies to encounter.

In the gameplay first look, we see the protagonist Arjun Devraj (performed by Rahul Kohli) exploring Carcosa as a total eclipse approaches. Along the way, Arjun meets key character Nitya Chandran (performed by Shunori Ramanthan), part of an ensemble cast.

The stunning environments include ancient lost civilizations, fueled by the twisted enlightenment of the eclipse. This is just one of the many diverse biomes the team is creating.

### How Our Action Gameplay Has Evolved

For the first gameplay reveal, Housemarque showcased real, unedited action from *Saros*, highlighting new elements built upon the award-winning third-person action of *Returnal*.

The goal was to add more depth through a wider variety of tools. Arjun’s Soltari advanced combat suit allows for dashing, melee attacks, jumping, and more.

At the start of each run, players select a loadout mixing Soltari human weaponry and Carcosan alien weaponry. In the video, Arjun uses the Soltari Phosphorous Shotgun to combat hostile machines in the ancient city.

Expect spectacular enemy bullet patterns and brutal weapons that fuel this science-fiction power fantasy.

Arjun’s unique abilities include:

– **Soltari Shield**: Activated by holding R1, it absorbs hostile projectiles to defend Arjun.
– **Carcosan Power Weapon**: Charged by harvesting energy from absorbed projectiles (using the L2 adaptive trigger), it unleashes explosive attacks with R2.

This power weapon transforms Arjun’s right arm into an eclipse-fueled weapon, corrupting him but providing devastating alternate combat options.

*Saros* expands its storytelling through grounded voice-over, stunning cinematics, haunting audio logs, and conversations with the ensemble cast of NPCs.

Arjun gains a “Second Chance” ability, allowing him to rise again on the first death using eclipse corruption energy. This is part of a broader permanent-progression system enabling players to return stronger after each death.
