The Sakal Maratha Samaj, Navi Mumbai, has appealed to the civic authorities to speed up the pending installation of the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj statue at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Chowk, Sector 1, Nerul, near D.Y. Patil College.

### Memorandum Highlights Delays

In a memorandum addressed to the Navi Mumbai Municipal Commissioner, the group expressed its gratitude for initiating the project but pointed out significant delays. The memorandum stated, “The beautification of the chowk has been completed and replicas of Mavlas have been erected, but even after six months, the main statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj has not been installed.”

### Tender and Timeline Concerns

The community highlighted that the tender for the project was floated in August 2023. Despite more than a year passing since then, the installation work has yet to begin. The group requested that the statue be installed and inaugurated before October 6, 2025, emphasizing the importance of timely completion.

### Warning of Agitation

Members of the Sakal Maratha Samaj issued a warning, stating, “If the demand is not fulfilled within the given timeframe, we will be forced to launch a strong agitation.” The statement reflects the community’s frustration over the prolonged delay.

### Citizens Plan Symbolic Inauguration

Meanwhile, local citizens have taken the initiative to ensure the memorial is no longer kept hidden. Expressing their discontent with the delay, they suggested that the statue be inaugurated by women sanitation workers of the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation. This symbolic gesture aims to honor the vital contributions of these women to society.

### Cultural Festivities to Mark Inauguration

“To add grandeur to the occasion, two dhol–tasha ensembles and two women’s lezim troupes will perform,” said a resident. These traditional music groups will bring cultural vibrancy and festive spirit to the inauguration celebration.

The community and citizens alike hope for swift action so that the statue of the revered Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj can be proudly unveiled at Nerul soon.
