If you wish to place an obituary in the Pioneer Press, please follow the guidelines below to ensure a smooth and timely process.

### Submission Instructions

**Note:** There is currently no online option for direct obituary placement through our website.

### Obituary Submission Checklist

**General Information**
– Your full name
– Address (City, State, Zip Code)
– Primary phone number
– Alternate phone number (if any)

**Obituary Specifications**
– Name of the deceased
– Full obituary text
– Photo: Please attach a JPEG or PDF file if possible (TIF and other formats accepted; we will reach out if there are any issues.)
– Preferred publication date(s)
– Indicate if you want to run the obituary for multiple days (discounts available; see below)

### Photo Guidelines

If you include a photo, it must be used on all selected run dates to qualify for a multi-day discount. Contact us for further details on photo requirements.

### Death Verification Policy

To publish an obituary, we require:
– Contact information (name and phone number) for the funeral home or cremation society handling arrangements.
– We must verify the death with them during their business hours.
– Alternatively, a death certificate can be provided for verification. Only one form of verification is required.

*Special note:* If the deceased’s body has been donated to the University of Minnesota Anatomy Bequest Program or a similar institution, provide their phone number for verification (note limited weekend hours).

### Guestbook and Outside Website Policy

We cannot reference other media sources or external obituaries/guestbooks when placing an obituary in print or online. You may, however, include a website for the funeral home or a family email for contact if desired. Contact us with any questions.

### Review and Approval Process

Once your submission is received:
– We will email or fax you a proof for review before publication.
– The proof will include the obituary text, pricing, and scheduled publication dates.
– Please check the proof carefully. Notify us of any changes or errors **before** the scheduled publication date.

*Note:* After final proof approval and publication, we are not responsible for any errors.

### Online Obituary Changes

For edits to an obituary already published online, please contact the obituary desk directly.

### Payment Procedure

Pre-payment is required for all obituary notices before publication.
– After approving your proof, call 651-228-5263 to provide your payment information.

Accepted payment methods:
– **Credit Card:** Payment accepted by phone only, per PCI security regulations.
– **EFT (Electronic Funds Transfer):** We accept checks by phone (provide your routing and account number).

### Rates and Discounts

– **Minimum charge:** $162 for the first 12 lines (ads under 12 lines will be charged the minimum rate)
– **Each additional line:** $12 per line
– **Obituaries longer than 40 lines:** 7.5% discount per line
– **Multi-day discount:** 20% off both the first and second placement (must be scheduled at initial placement; photo must appear both days)
– **Three placements:** The third obituary placement is free of charge
– **Photo charge:** $125 per photo per day (e.g., two photos over two days = four charges, totaling $500)

### Deadlines and Office Hours

Please observe the following office hours and deadlines:

– **Hours:** Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM
– **Closed on weekends and holidays**
– Submission deadlines are strictly enforced to ensure your obituary is published on the requested date.

Memoriam submissions are tributes or remembrances and have different rates than obituaries.
