**How to Place an Obituary in the Pioneer Press**
If you would like to place an obituary in the Pioneer Press, please review the following guidelines and instructions. At this time, all obituaries must be submitted by email—there is no option to place them through our website.

### What to Include in Your Submission
**General Information:**
– Your full name
– Address (City, State, Zip Code)
– Phone number
– Alternate phone number (if any)
**Obituary Specification:**
– Name of deceased
– Obituary text
– Photo (JPEG or PDF preferred; TIF and other file types accepted. We will contact you if there are any issues with your photo.)
– Ad run dates (see rates and discounts below)
If you would like to run the obituary on multiple days, please specify this when you schedule the first run date to receive the available discount. If you include a photo, it must be used on all run dates for the discount to apply. Please contact us for more details.

### Submission Process
1. **Send an Email:**
Email all the information above to:

2. **Proof and Review:**
Once your submission is received, we will email or fax you a proof of your obituary for your review prior to publication. This proof will include pricing and the dates the notice is scheduled to appear.
Be sure to review the proof carefully and notify us of any changes or corrections before publication. We are not responsible for errors after final approval.

### Verification of Death
In order to publish any obituary, you must provide:
– The name and phone number of the funeral home or cremation society handling the arrangements
We will contact the funeral home or cremation society during their business hours to verify the death. If the deceased has been donated to the University of Minnesota Anatomy Bequest Program, or a similar organization, their phone number is required.
Alternatively, a death certificate may be submitted for verification. Only **one** of these two options is necessary. Please allow extra time for verification, especially on weekends.

### Guestbook and Outside Websites
We do not allow references to other media sources, guestbooks, or obituaries published elsewhere in print or online notices.
However, we may include the website of a funeral home or a family email address for contact. Please reach out with questions about this policy.

### Online Obituaries
Changes to an online obituary can be made through the obituary desk. Call us if you need further assistance.

### Payment Procedure
**Pre-payment is required** for all obituary notices prior to publication, by the specified deadline.
Once you receive and approve your proof:
– Call **651-228-5263** to provide payment information.
**Payment Methods:**
– Credit card (payment accepted by phone only)
– EFT (check by phone; provide your bank routing and account numbers)

### Obituary Rates
– **Minimum charge:** $162 for the first 12 lines
– **Each additional line:** $12 per line
– If the obituary is under 12 lines, the minimum charge applies ($162)
– **Obituaries over 40 lines:** Receive a 7.5% discount per line
– **Multi-day discount:** On a second run date, get a 20% discount on both the first and second placements (must be scheduled together; photo must run both days for the discount)
– **Three-day special:** Place three obituaries and the third placement is free of charge
– **Photo fee:** $125 per day. (For example, two photos in the paper for two days = four photo charges = $500)

### Memoriam (Non-Obituary) Requests
A memoriam is a tribute or remembrance for a loved one who has passed. Memoriam rates differ from obituary rates. Please call **651-228-5280** or email us for more information about placing a memoriam.
