Awaysis, from the makers of Galak-Z, gets a 2026 release window at Day of the Devs
Developer 17-Bit has been away for quite some time. The studio was last seen working on the VR title *Song in the Smoke*, but is most well-known for the space roguelike *Galak-Z: The Dimensional* and the strategy extravaganza *Skulls of the Shogun*.
The team’s next project is a four-player “dungeon brawler” called *Awaysis*. Viewers were treated to a fresh look at the game during Wednesday’s Day of the Devs: The Game Awards Edition 2025 showcase.
*First revealed in June 2025, Awaysis* brings together up to four players (locally or online) for an adventure against an invading evil. Various animal warriors must unite to protect the titular Awaysis, an ancient, peaceful, floating relic.
Combat in *Awaysis* involves mastering melee-based weapon skills alongside the game’s physics engine, which utilizes principles of momentum for both fighting and traversal.
Creative Director Jake Kazdal helped open the Day of the Devs presentation with a fresh look at *Awaysis* and showcased some of the environments players can expect to explore. Expect to brawl across diverse biomes like caves, sky gardens, and elemental temples.
According to Kazdal, dungeon runs are estimated to take 15-20 minutes each, making for quick, action-packed sessions.
Another notable aspect of *Awaysis* is its party game vibe, drawing comparisons to titles like *Gang Beasts*. The combat system seamlessly transitions into PvP modes such as King of the Hill and a unique mode called “Brawleyball.”
The team at 17-Bit is putting a lot into *Awaysis*, from its Unreal Engine 5-crafted world to its soundtrack composed by Hip Tanaka, known for his work on *Metroid* and *Earthbound*.
Look for *Awaysis* to release on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S in 2026. It will also be available on Xbox Game Pass from day one.
