Google suggests which Pixel features should be used this Halloween
It’s that spooky time of year again, and some Pixel features fit right in. With Halloween approaching, Google shared a blog post this weekend revealing several Pixel features that are perfect for the season.
Ironically, I’m writing this from the Halloween capital of the U.S., Salem, Massachusetts, where over one million visitors arrive each October to soak in that spooky feeling just in time for the holiday.
Google’s suggestions include “a few frighteningly fun features to try,” including the latest additions released with the new Pixel 10 phones, the Pixel 10 Pro Fold, and the Pixel Watch 4. The blog post was amusingly written by Jack O. Lantern, Google’s Chief Scare Officer (CSO).
### Festive Watch Faces for Your Pixel Watch
The first recommendation from Google is to select a festive watch face for your Pixel Watch. To do this, open the Pixel Watch app, select “Watch Faces,” and then tap “Edit” in the upper right-hand corner.
You’ll see an option for a photo watch face. Pick that option and then open the Google Photos app. There, you can select up to 30 pictures that the watch will cycle through on its display. Google suggests scrolling back to past Octobers for some nostalgic Halloween picks — right on your wrist!
### Capture Group Photos with “Add Me” and Auto Best Take
Halloween is always better when you’re together with friends or family. When taking photos, you’ll want to get everyone in the picture. The “Add Me” feature on the Pixel 9 and Pixel 10 lines allows you to take a photo and add yourself later. This is one of those features I’d love to see Google backport to my Pixel 6 Pro.
Additionally, the Pixel 10’s Auto Best Take activates when you’re about to take a group photo. Within seconds, the feature analyzes up to 150 frames to find the perfect shot where everyone looks their best. If such a frame doesn’t exist, it creates one by blending frames using Best Take technology.
The result? A great selfie that perfectly captures memorable moments like Halloween celebrations.
### AI-Powered Camera Coach for Spooky Shots
Another fantastic AI-powered feature available with the Pixel 10 series is the Camera Coach. You tell the coach what you want to accomplish with your photo, and it guides you through the process to get the results you want.
Want to take a spooky photo for Halloween? Just tell the Camera Coach, follow its recommendations, and you’ll be all set to create that eerie photo.
### Transform Your Photos with AI Magic
Pixel phones’ AI capabilities allow you to use conversational English to add pumpkins, costumes, or any spooky elements that come to mind to your photographs.
Want to turn your significant other into a witch or warlock? Just describe the outfit you want them to wear—pointed hat, broom, long robe, sandals—and your Pixel will reimagine the image accordingly.
### Spice Up Your Halloween Party with the Recorder App
Pixel’s acclaimed Recorder app now lets you add background music to your recordings, a feature perfect for Halloween parties. Record scary ghost-like sounds, then enhance them with background music.
Google suggests choosing “angry” or “sad” vibes to create the perfect eerie ambiance. Simply select your otherworldly utterance recording, tap “Create music,” and pick from “Featured vibes” or create a custom vibe based on your mood.
### Get Adjusted to the Season with the Pixel Sunrise Alarm
By the time Halloween arrives, the days have already grown shorter. Google recommends using the Pixel Sunrise Alarm to help you adjust to waking up in the dark. This feature gradually brightens your Pixel’s screen starting 15 minutes before your alarm goes off, helping you wake more naturally.
The Sunrise Alarm is part of the Bedtime settings in the Pixel Clock app. To set it up:
1. Open the Pixel Clock app and tap the Bedtime tab at the bottom right of the screen.
2. If you don’t have a Bedtime schedule, create one by adjusting the clock under the Schedule heading.
3. Make sure all the toggles are enabled.
4. Once set, you’ll see the Sunrise Alarm listing. Tap the open dot to the right of the listing to activate it; a checkmark will confirm your selection.
### Ready for a Spooky Season with Your Pixel?
With Halloween less than two weeks away, Pixel owners should now be ready to enjoy the spooky season using their Pixel handset’s creative and fun features.
