**How to Place An Obituary in the Pioneer Press**

To place an obituary, please follow the instructions and guidelines below. There is no option to submit obituaries through our website. Email all submissions to: **[email protected]**. For questions, please contact our obituary desk at **651-228-5263**.

### General Information Required

Please include:
– Your full name
– Address (City, State, Zip Code)
– Phone number
– Alternate phone number (if any)

### Obituary Details

– **Name of Deceased**
– **Obituary Text** (full notice as you wish it to appear)
– **Photo** (JPEG or PDF preferred; TIF and other file types accepted. We will contact you if any issues arise.)
– **Ad Run Dates** (There is a discount for running the obituary more than one day, but this must be scheduled on the first run date for the discount to apply. If a photo is used, it must run both days for the discount.)

### Policies

#### Verification of Death

To publish an obituary, you must provide the name and phone number of the funeral home or cremation society handling arrangements. We will contact them to verify the death during their business hours.
If the deceased’s body was donated to the University of Minnesota Anatomy Bequest Program or a similar program, their phone number is required for verification.
Alternatively, a death certificate can be used for verification.

Please allow extra time for verification, especially around weekends due to limited hours.

#### Guestbook and Outside Websites

We cannot reference guestbooks or obituaries appearing on other media outlets. However, we may publish a funeral home website or a family contact email. Please contact us for additional details.

### Obituary Submission & Proofing Process

Upon receipt of your submission, we will fax or email you a proof to review before publication. The proof includes price and scheduled publication dates.

**Please review the proof carefully.** Notify us of any changes or corrections before the notice appears in the Pioneer Press, according to each day’s deadlines.
We cannot make corrections after publication.

For online obituaries, changes can be handled through our obituary desk.

### Payment Procedure

**Pre-payment is required before publication.**
After you have approved your proof, call **651-228-5263** with your payment information.

Accepted payment methods:
– Credit Card: By phone only (due to Payment Card Industry regulations)
– EFT: Check by phone (provide routing and account numbers)
– Cash: Accepted at our Front Counter Monday–Friday, 8:00AM–3:30PM

### Rates

– **Minimum Charge:** $162 for the first 10 lines
– **Additional Lines:** $12.20 per line over 10 lines
– If under 10 lines, the minimum charge of $162 applies
– **Second Run Dates:** $8.20 per line for each line (including the first 10)
– **Photo Charge:** $125 per day per photo
– Example: 2 photos over 2 days = 4 photo charges, totaling $500

### Memoriam Notices

A memoriam is a remembrance of a loved one who has passed, not a full obituary. Memoriam rates differ from obituaries.
