An Air India flight from Amritsar to Birmingham successfully made a safe landing, despite the unexpected deployment of the aircraft’s Ram Air Turbine (RAT) during its final approach. The airline confirmed that all electrical and hydraulic parameters were normal at the time of landing.
Following the incident, the aircraft has been grounded in Birmingham for further technical checks to ensure safety and operational integrity.
**Return Flight Cancelled**
Due to this incident, the return flight AI114 from Birmingham to Delhi has been canceled. Air India is currently making alternative arrangements for the affected passengers.
An airline spokesperson stated, “The operating crew of flight AI117 from Amritsar to Birmingham on 4 October 2025 detected deployment of the Ram Air Turbine (RAT) of the aircraft during its final approach.”
**Safety Assurances**
The spokesperson further emphasized, “All electrical and hydraulic parameters were found normal, and the aircraft performed a safe landing at Birmingham. At Air India, the safety of passengers and crew remains our top priority.”
The Ram Air Turbine (RAT) is an emergency system designed to provide pilots with enough power to control the aircraft in the event of main power system failure. Its deployment in this case ensured continued control and a safe landing despite the unexpected situation.
Air India continues to investigate the cause of the RAT deployment and is committed to maintaining the highest standards of safety for its passengers and crew.
