Zebras hold off Bears, 55-42

KAUFMAN Mason Landers sealed the deal for Grandview with a 1-yard touchdown run late in the fourth quarter, and the Zebras held on for a 55-42 win over Gladewater in a Class 3A area playoff game. Gladewater ends the year with a 10-2 record, while Grandview moves on wit ha 10-2 worksheet. A 1-yard TD run by Gladewater’s Tra Watts put the Bears on top 21-14 after one quarter, but the Zebras tied it midway through the second on a 25-yard run by Elijah Dominguez. Landen King’s 75-yard kickoff return put Gladewater back in front 15 seconds later, and Jeremiah Flanagan added to the Bears’ lead wit ha 22-yard run with 5: 29 left. Dominguez scored from 2 yards out with 24 seconds left to make it a 35-28 contest, and then Landers hit Blue Hubbard on a 40-yard TD pass as time expired in the half to leave the Zebras trailing 35-34 at the break. A 25-yard TD run by Hubbard early in the fourth gave Grandview a 41-35 lead, and the Zebras added to the lead with 2: 24 left on a 65-yard TD pass from Landers to Hubbard. The TD was set up by a Hubbard interception. Flanagan kept the Bears close with a 40-yard touchdown run late in the third to make it 49-42, but Landers capped the scoring with his short TD run with 4: 02 left to make the final 55-42.
