Indian Air Force Chief, Air Chief Marshal AP Singh, has urged the global community to take a lesson from India on how to rapidly end military conflicts. Speaking at an event in Delhi, ACM Singh highlighted the prolonged nature of current wars, including the Russia-Ukraine conflict and the ongoing war involving Israel.
“The main wars that are going on today—be it Russia-Ukraine or the Israel war—are dragging on for years because no one is thinking about conflict termination,” he stated.
### Operation Sindoor: A Swift Resolution
Air Chief Marshal Singh referred to India’s prompt handling of Operation Sindoor with Pakistan in May as a prime example of effective conflict termination.
Operation Sindoor was launched on May 7 in response to a terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which tragically killed 26 people. The Indian armed forces swiftly targeted terrorist infrastructure deep inside Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. During the operation, nine terror launch pads were destroyed and over 100 terrorists were neutralized.
Despite facing drone and missile attacks from Pakistan, India maintained its focus strictly on military targets and called off the offensive by May 10, having achieved its objectives.
### The Importance of Ending Conflicts Promptly
ACM Singh defended India’s decision to end the conflict after accomplishing its mission goals. He stressed that prolonging wars can negatively impact a nation’s military preparedness and economic stability.
“If our objectives have been met, then why should we not terminate a conflict?” he asked. “Because any conflict has a lot of price which has to be paid. It will affect our preparedness for the next one. It will affect our economy.”
His remarks underscore the strategic importance of timely conflict resolution to preserve national resources and maintain readiness for future challenges.
