Actor Saif Ali Khan recently reflected on his film career journey, starting from the early 1990s and how it evolved after the year 2000. In an insightful interview with Esquire India, he also shared his thoughts on why “working with wives and girlfriends isn’t a good idea.”

### Career Evolution and Early Struggles

Saif opened up about his initial years in Bollywood, revealing that many people thought he was “lucky” to get numerous chances. However, he admitted that during this phase, he wasn’t landing the best roles or being cast as the main lead. Over time, Saif realized that he thrived in an environment of “healthy competition,” enjoying the creative process of riffing off his co-stars.

This personal insight is what led him to the conclusion that working with one’s wife or girlfriend on screen might not be the best idea. Despite this, Saif has worked extensively with his current wife, Kareena Kapoor Khan, while notably never collaborating professionally with his ex-wife Amrita Singh.

Saif and Kareena have shared the screen in several memorable films, including *LOC Kargil* (2003), *Omkara* (2006), *Tashan*, *Roadside Romeo* (2008), *Kurbaan* (2009), and *Agent Vinod* (2012). Beyond films, they have also appeared together in various ad campaigns, captivating audiences with their on-screen chemistry.

In a 2021 interview with Pinkvilla, Saif expressed that for them to collaborate again, it would have to be for a “remarkable” project. He emphasized that their involvement should be based on their merit as actors rather than their status as a married couple. “It will have to be a director who casts us, not because we are husband and wife, but just as actors,” he stated.

Saif Ali Khan was recently seen in the Netflix release *Jewel Thief: The Heist Begins*, starring alongside Jaideep Ahlawat, Kunal Kapoor, and Nikita Dutta. The film is directed by Kookie Gulati and Robbie Grewal.

Meanwhile, Kareena Kapoor Khan was last featured in Rohit Shetty’s *Singham Again*, sharing the screen with stars like Ajay Devgn, Akshay Kumar, Deepika Padukone, Tiger Shroff, and Arjun Kapoor. She is gearing up for her next project, *Daayra*, a crime-drama thriller directed by Meghna Gulzar, co-starring Prithviraj Sukumaran.
