A tragic incident unfolded in Fort Worth, Texas, when 23-year-old Richard Florez was arrested for the murder of 28-year-old Indian student Chandrashekar Pole. The shooting took place late Friday night at the Eastchase Parkway gas station, where Pole was working a part-time shift.
According to reports, Florez allegedly shot Pole before fleeing the scene. Shortly after, Florez fired at another vehicle about a mile away and ultimately crashed his car into a gate while attempting to enter a residence on Meadowbrook Drive. Police arrested Florez following the crash, discovering a firearm in his vehicle.
Fort Worth Police spokesperson Officer Brad Perez confirmed to NBC DFW that Florez is currently hospitalized but has been charged with homicide. The motive behind the shooting remains under investigation. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed that Pole was pronounced dead at the scene.

### About the Victim
Chandrashekar Pole, originally from Hyderabad, India, had completed a Bachelor of Dental Surgery before moving to the United States two years ago. Recently, he earned a Master’s degree in Data Analytics from the University of North Texas in Denton and was actively seeking employment in his field.
To support himself financially during this period, Pole took up a part-time job at the gas station where the shooting occurred.

### Repatriation Efforts and Community Response
The Indian Consulate in Houston is working closely with Pole’s family to repatriate his remains. However, due to a local government shutdown, further updates and a formal police statement have been delayed.
Pole’s death has deeply shaken the local Indian-American community, sparking fears and grief. In response, community members have launched a GoFundMe campaign to assist with repatriation expenses and to support his family during this difficult time.
This incident adds to a series of violent events involving Indian nationals in the US. Just recently, on September 10, another Indian-origin individual, Chandra Nagamallaiah from Karnataka, was fatally attacked at his workplace in East Dallas, Texas.

### Related Incident
On the same day as Pole’s shooting, a 51-year-old Indian-origin motel owner was shot outside the Pittsburgh Motel in Robinson while investigating a disturbance in the parking lot. The case further underscores growing security concerns among the Indian diaspora in the region.
