Tenerife secured a victory in the first round of Group D of the FIBA Basketball Champions League, defeating Trapani on the road with a score of 84-78.
Eleven players scored for the visitors, although only two finished the game in double figures. Aaron Doornekamp led Tenerife with 13 points, followed closely by Bruno Fitipaldo with 12, and Jaime Fernandez, who ended the game with 11 points.
For Trapani, Jordan Ford was the standout performer, scoring 16 points, while Timmy Allen contributed 14 points. The Italian team, one of the biggest surprises in Europe last season, put up a respectable fight. However, Tenerife’s experience ultimately paid off, allowing them to clinch a valuable win at the start of the competition.
The host team managed to cut the deficit to four points on several occasions but couldn’t take the next step forward. This allowed the Spaniards to control the game and see it out relatively calmly.
In the next round, Tenerife will host Bnei Herzliya, while Trapani will play their second match at home against Tofas.
In the other game of the first round, the Turkish team secured a hard-fought 90-86 victory over the Israeli team.
