Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Rams: Who has the edge?
TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS (6-4) at RAMS (8-2) When: 5: 20 p. m. Sunday Where: SoFi Stadium TV/Radio: NBC (Ch. 4)/Peacock/710 AM; 93. 1 FM; 1330 AM (Spanish); Sirius 225, 226 Line: Rams by 6. 5 Notable injury designations Buccaneers: OUT: RB Bucky Irving (shoulder, foot), OLB Hasson Reddick (ankle/knee), CB Jamel Dean (hip), Ben Bredson (hamstring); QUESTIONABLE: WR Chris Godwin (fibula), CB Benjamin Morrison (hamstring), OLB Markees Watts (hand). Rams: QUESTIONABLE: WR Xavier Smith (concussion), OL David Quessenberry (groin). What’s at stake? As these teams look to win their divisions in the NFC these next seven weekends, clinching the tiebreaker between each other could come into play when seeding is determined in January. Who’s better? The Rams are coming in on a five-game winning streak, whereas the Bucs have been weighed down by various injuries and have lost three of four. Tampa Bay does appear to be getting WR Chris Godwin back, however, which should help the offense find a little more juice before facing a Rams defense that ranks second in the NFL in dropback estimated points added per play (-0. 078). Matchup to watch: Rams’ pass rush vs. Bucs QB Baker Mayfield. The Bucs’ offensive line presents its own problems, but Mayfield is an expert at avoiding sacks and ranks eighth in the NFL in pressure-to-sack ratio (14. 4%). It will be a challenge for the Rams to get Mayfield to the ground, and how successful they are on their first attempt will determine how long the secondary is forced to cover a talented Bucs receiving corps. Rams win if: They sack Mayfield four times. WR Davante Adams catches five passes for 60 yards. They convert at least 50% of their third-down attempts to allow the defense time to rest after lengthy snaps against the Bucs’ passing game. QB Matthew Stafford takes no more than two sacks. Fantasy sleeper: Rams TE Terrance Ferguson. The injury to TE Tyler Higbee is going to open up opportunities for somebody. Ferguson’s growing snap share should offer a higher ceiling for the second-round rookie.
