Grigor Dimitrov’s actress girlfriend Eiza Gonzalez swells with pride as Bulgarian wins his 1st match back at Paris Masters months after horror injury
After 14 weeks of recovering from a severe injury sustained during the 2025 Wimbledon Championship, Grigor Dimitrov made a triumphant return to the court. He played in the Round of 64 match against France’s Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard at the Paris Masters, winning convincingly in straight sets, 7-6(5), 6-1.
Watching the match from afar was Dimitrov’s actress girlfriend, Eiza Gonzalez. She expressed her support on social media by resharing a clip of the Bulgarian tennis star’s entrance, accompanied by warm applause from the crowd. Alongside the video, she added firecracker emojis to emphasize her excitement. Eiza also reshared a remarkable point where Dimitrov outwitted his opponent during the second set, calling him a “Warrior” on her Instagram stories.
### The Injury That Changed Everything
Back in July, Grigor Dimitrov suffered a pectoral muscle tear during his Round of 16 match against Jannik Sinner at Wimbledon. At the time, Dimitrov was leading by two sets and was tied in the third when the injury forced him to retire from the match. Sinner eventually went on to win the prestigious All England Club title by defeating Carlos Alcaraz in the final.
### Taking Time Off for Recovery
Ahead of his comeback at the Paris Masters, Dimitrov reflected on how stepping away from tennis helped him in unexpected ways. “It was the first time in almost twenty years that I could really be at home for the summer, so I took advantage of these moments,” he shared. “I wasn’t really following what was happening on the tour, I wasn’t trying to stay connected.”
### A Strong Return to Competition
In his return match, Dimitrov broke his opponent three times in the second set, showcasing his skill and determination. After the victory, he opened up about the emotional and physical challenges of missing most of the second half of the season due to injury.
“I’m still trying to wrap my head around the whole time away from the court,” Dimitrov admitted. “I knew that coming to competition was going to be a difficult task. I just wanted to come out and test myself, give myself a chance. It’s a good night. I’m taking it in.”
He continued, “It’s such an amazing crowd and towards the end of the year, you really feel that energy. I feel very appreciated all around. That gives me great gratitude just to be back.”
### Looking Ahead
Mentally, Dimitrov says he was in a good place before the tournament began. His goal is to perform well at the Paris Masters and then focus on staying healthy for a successful 2026 season.
