Our charts compare figures between platforms such as the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and older consoles. We provide insights based on worldwide, US, European, and Japanese estimates.
This monthly series now looks at the aligned worldwide sales of the Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch 1. The Nintendo Switch 2 launched in June 2025, while the original Nintendo Switch debuted in March 2017. Because of these different launch months, their holiday periods do not line up.

### Switch 2 vs. Switch 1 Worldwide Sales Comparison

– **Switch 2 Total Lead:** 4,581,656 units
– **Switch 2 Total Sales:** 8,160,186 units
– **Switch 1 Total Sales:** 3,578,530 units
August 2025 marks the third month since the Nintendo Switch 2’s release. During this latest month, the Switch 2 outsold the Switch 1 by approximately 620,000 units when comparing equivalent months since launch.
Currently, the Switch 2 leads the Switch 1 by over 4.58 million units in sales during their first three months on the market. To clarify, August 2025 is the third month for the Switch 2, while May 2017 was the third month for the Switch 1.
In detail, the Switch 2 sold 8.16 million units in its first three months, whereas the Switch 1 moved 3.58 million units over the same initial period.

To date, the original Nintendo Switch has sold an impressive 151.62 million units worldwide. Meanwhile, the Switch 2 remains approximately 143.46 million units behind its predecessor in lifetime sales, given its recent launch.
