Sports Minister Mandaviyaleads ‘Sundays on Cycle’ with doctors
**Health Professionals Play Vital Role in Guiding Bharat on Its Fitness Journey**
*44th Edition of Sundays on Cycle Held Across 10,000+ Locations in India*
**New Delhi:** Union Minister of Youth Affairs & Sports and Labour & Employment, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, led the 44th edition of the nationwide fitness initiative, ‘Sundays on Cycle (SOC)’, in New Delhi today. The event, organized across over 10,000 locations throughout India, aims to promote fitness and healthy living among citizens.
This week, the initiative featured special partners—doctors and health professionals—highlighting the critical role of preventive health and the importance of physical activity in combating lifestyle diseases such as obesity.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Mandaviya lauded the dedication of healthcare workers, saying, “As Health Minister during Covid, I witnessed firsthand the unparalleled contribution of doctors and health staff. I take this opportunity to thank all health professionals for joining Sundays on Cycle to spread the message of fitness. I urge you to guide citizens towards a healthier life because when doctors advise on health matters, people listen. Whether it is the fight against obesity, which is a key vision of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, or promoting the benefits of cycling through Sundays on Cycle, your message will reach every Indian.”
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from people of all ages, including World Para Athletics Championship (WPAC) medalists Praveen Kumar, Soman Rana, and Sailesh Kumar, who joined to inspire the public towards an active lifestyle.
Organised in collaboration with the Cycling Federation of India (CFI), Yogasana Bharat, and MY Bharat, the Delhi event was held in partnership with Raahgiri Foundation, Fitspire, and Red FM. Besides cycling, activities such as Zumba, Rope Skipping led by Dr. Shikha Gupta, Yogasana, and a Game Zone were also featured.
Dr. Mandaviya emphasized the growing impact of Sundays on Cycle, stating, “Today, Sundays on Cycle has become one of India’s leading fitness movements. It is organised every Sunday in more than 10,000 locations across the country, with doctors actively participating to fight obesity. Even the most remote corners of India join to promote the Prime Minister’s vision of a ‘Viksit Bharat’ by 2047, where fit citizens form the foundation. A healthy body and mind build a strong nation. Cycling is the easiest form of exercise and accessible to all. I also urge everyone to support ‘Swadeshi’ products for their sports and fitness needs.”
Echoing these sentiments, WPAC medalist Praveen Kumar said, “Exercise helps maintain focus, which is key to achieving anything in life. Cycling is a fantastic form of exercise, and I am thrilled to be part of this event motivating people to take charge of their health.”
Sailesh Kumar added, “This government initiative to promote fitness among citizens is commendable. Everyone should dedicate at least one hour daily to fitness for physical and mental wellness. Joining this event today and witnessing the enthusiasm of participants confirms that Indians are increasingly serious about fitness.”
The ‘Sundays on Cycle’ initiative encourages communities to come together every Sunday to cycle, exercise, and engage in open-air fitness activities. Alongside cycling, participants enjoy Zumba, Rope Skipping, Yogasana, and other exercises tailored for all age groups. These activities also serve as warm-up sessions for cyclists before rides.
The inclusion of medical professionals in this edition reinforces the message that preventive healthcare begins with daily actions and that fitness is the first critical step toward building a healthier, stronger, and more resilient India.
Over its 44 editions, the Fit India Sundays on Cycle initiative has seen immense participation from over 100,000 locations nationwide, engaging more than 12.5 lakh individuals. Events were also held at venues like the SAI NCOE Guwahati, STC Chhattisgarh, SAI STC Alleppey, SAI NSRC Kolkata, SAI STC Dharamshala, and others.
These events take place across State and Union Territory capitals, Sports Authority of India (SAI) Regional Centres, National Centres of Excellence (NCOEs), SAI Training Centres (STCs), Khelo India State Centres of Excellence (KISCEs), and Khelo India Centres (KICs), fostering a nationwide culture of fitness and well-being.
