Sean “Diddy” Combs, the hip-hop mogul, has been sentenced to 50 months—over four years—in prison for his involvement in transporting individuals across state lines for drug-fueled sexual encounters. This ruling marks the conclusion of a high-profile federal case that garnered intense testimony and widespread media attention.
### Sentence Details
Combs, 55, was sentenced on Friday and may be released in approximately three years, as he has already served one year behind bars. Prosecutors had sought a sentence exceeding 11 years, while his defense team argued for immediate release, citing his remorse and commitment to sobriety during incarceration.
In addition to prison time, the judge imposed a $500,000 fine—the maximum allowed under the law.
### Conviction Overview
In July, Combs was found guilty of transporting his girlfriends and male sex workers across the country for these illicit encounters. However, he was acquitted of the more serious sex trafficking and racketeering charges, which could have resulted in a life sentence.
During sentencing, U.S. District Judge Arun Subramanian questioned why Combs’s criminal conduct persisted for so long, stating, “Because you had the power and the resources to keep it going, and because you weren’t caught.”
### Appeal Plans
Combs’s legal team announced their intention to appeal the sentence. Defense lawyer Marc Agnifilo criticized the judge’s decision, claiming he acted as a “13th juror” who “second-guessed the jury’s verdict.”
Prior to sentencing, Combs broke down in tears, expressing regret over his “disgusting, shameful” actions and pleading for leniency, saying, “I ask your honor for a chance to be a father again.”
### Trial Highlights
The nearly two-month trial took place in a Manhattan federal court and featured harrowing testimonies from several women who accused Combs of physical abuse, threats, sexual assault, and blackmail. Prosecutor Christy Slavik argued that sparing Combs serious prison time would be tantamount to excusing years of violence.
Among the witnesses were former girlfriend Casandra “Cassie” Ventura and a woman known as “Jane,” both of whom recounted traumatic experiences involving Combs.
