Sean “Diddy” Combs, the once-celebrated hip-hop mogul, has been sentenced to 50 months—four years and two months—in prison. The federal sentence was handed down on Friday following his conviction for transporting individuals across state lines for sexual encounters, bringing a close to a high-profile case that drew intense media attention.
**Sentence Details and Potential Release**
The 55-year-old Combs has already served one year behind bars, which means he may be released in approximately three years. Prosecutors had pushed for a sentence exceeding 11 years, while Combs’s defense team argued for his immediate release. His lawyers claimed that his time in custody had instilled remorse and sobriety.
In addition to prison time, the judge imposed a $500,000 fine—the maximum penalty allowed.
**Conviction and Judge’s Remarks**
Combs was found guilty in July of transporting his girlfriends and male sex workers across state lines for drug-fueled sexual encounters. However, he was acquitted of more serious sex trafficking and racketeering charges, which could have resulted in a life sentence.
During sentencing, U.S. District Judge Arun Subramanian questioned why Combs’s actions persisted for so long. The judge said, “Why did it happen so long? Because you had the power and the resources to keep it going, and because you weren’t caught.”
**Plans to Appeal Sentence**
Combs’s defense lawyers have announced their intention to appeal the sentence. Attorney Marc Agnifilo told reporters that the judge acted as a “13th juror,” effectively second-guessing the jury’s verdict.
Prior to sentencing, Combs broke down in tears, expressing deep remorse. He described his actions as “disgusting, shameful” and pleaded for leniency, saying, “I ask your honor for a chance to be a father again.”
**Trial Overview**
The nearly two-month-long trial in Manhattan federal court included harrowing testimonies from women who accused Combs of physical abuse, threats, sexual assault, and blackmail.
Prosecutor Christy Slavik argued that leniency would excuse years of violence. Notably, testimonies were given by former girlfriend Casandra “Cassie” Ventura and another woman identified only as “Jane,” both of whom recounted traumatic experiences involving Combs.

The case marks a significant downfall for the hip-hop icon, whose actions have now led to a lengthy prison sentence and a lasting stain on his legacy.
