Quinshon Judkins runs for three TDs, Browns blow out Dolphins 31-6
Is This the End for Mike McDaniel?
There’s certainly an argument for the Miami Dolphins to move on from their head coach, and possibly their General Manager, following a devastating 31-6 blowout loss to the Cleveland Browns on Sunday. Both Cleveland and Miami entered the game with identical 1-5 records and looming questions about the job security of their respective head coaches.
Throughout the game, the Browns appeared far more prepared to handle the wet, sloppy conditions along the shores of Lake Erie. Miami’s quarterback, Tua Tagovailoa, struggled significantly, throwing three interceptions before being pulled in the fourth quarter for rookie quarterback Quinn Ewers.
Tagovailoa’s first interception didn’t come until the third quarter, but it was his first pass of the second half that went awry. An errant throw was tipped and intercepted by Cleveland’s recently acquired Tyson Campbell, who returned it 34 yards for a pick-six. The Browns nearly capitalized again when Rayshawn Jenkins intercepted a pass deep in Miami territory, setting up an immediate touchdown on the very next play.
Tagovailoa’s final interception was a poorly thrown deep ball over the middle. That also marked his last pass of the game, as Ewers took over to finish out the contest. His final stat line was 12-of-23 for 100 yards with three interceptions, along with being credited for three fumbles amid a team-wide struggle to handle wet snaps.
On the ground, Quinshon Judkins carried the ball 25 times for 84 yards and scored three touchdowns, including runs of 46, 3, and 2 yards. Notably, his final two touchdowns came on direct snaps. Meanwhile, rookie quarterback Dillon Gabriel, after throwing over 50 times in last week’s game, was efficient Sunday, completing 13-of-18 passes for 116 yards.
Defensively, Myles Garrett made an impact with a sack and two tackles for loss en route to the Browns’ decisive victory.
With an ugly loss like this, attention inevitably shifts to Miami’s struggling 1-6 record and the critical decisions facing team owner Stephen Ross. If this marks the end for head coach Mike McDaniel and General Manager Chris Grier, we will likely know within the next 24 hours.
