Putin claims Russian troops have surrounded 2 Ukrainian cities but Ukraine says that’s not true
Russian President Vladimir Putin has claimed that Ukrainian forces are surrounded by the Russian army in two key eastern cities and has offered to negotiate a deal for their surrender.
Putin stated on Wednesday that Ukrainian troops are encircled in Pokrovsk, a significant Ukrainian stronghold in the eastern Donetsk region, as well as in Kupiansk, an important rail junction located in the northeastern Kharkiv region.
However, Ukrainian military officials have vigorously denied these claims. While they acknowledge that intense fighting is underway, they dismissed the reports of encirclement.
It is worth noting that Russian officials have made similar claims in the past about capturing Ukrainian strongholds, which later proved to be untrue.
At this time, independent verification of Putin’s latest claims has not been possible.
