Protests Erupt In Jabalpur After SC Confirms Cash Found At Delhi HC Justice Yashwant Verma’s Residence; FIR & Fair Probe Demanded
**Protests Erupt in Jabalpur Over Cash Seizure at Delhi HC Judge Yashwant Verma’s Residence**
Jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh): A wave of protests erupted in Jabalpur following the Supreme Court’s confirmation regarding the seizure of cash found at the residence of Delhi High Court judge Yashwant Verma amidst a scandal on Tuesday.
Several citizens and groups took to the streets, demanding the registration of an FIR against Justice Verma. The protesters are insisting on a fair and transparent investigation where the judge should be treated like any other citizen under the law.
Demonstrators called for the probe to be handed over to top agencies such as the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), rejecting the idea of an internal inquiry.
People held up posters and raised slogans questioning corruption within the judiciary. The Citizen Consumer Guidance Forum, along with other organizations, actively participated in the protest. They emphasized that judges across the Supreme Court, High Court, and lower courts should be accountable to independent investigative agencies just like ordinary citizens.
In addition to street protests, the groups announced their intention to write to the Chief Justice of India and the Chief Justice of the Madhya Pradesh High Court. Their letters will demand strict action and a thorough, impartial investigation into the matter. Furthermore, they called for the abolishment of the in-house inquiry system currently used for judicial misconduct.
**The Case**
The public outrage follows the discovery of ₹15 crore in burnt cash at Justice Verma’s Delhi residence after a fire broke out. Justice Verma has denied any connection to the money, claiming he is being framed.
In response to the scandal, the Supreme Court has barred him from handling any judicial work pending further investigations. Authorities continue to probe the case to ascertain the facts surrounding the incident.
The developments have intensified calls for greater transparency and accountability within the judiciary, reflecting widespread concerns over judicial integrity in the country.
