
Pompton Lakes defeats Hawthorne Christian – Girls basketball recap
Kylie LaCroix and Drea Bailey each scored 12 points to lead Pompton Lakes to a 47-36 victory over Hawthorne Christian in an away game at Hawthorne.
The Cardinals (12-5) started the game strong, holding a 15-10 lead after the first quarter. They maintained their advantage throughout the contest, despite a competitive second quarter from the Defenders. Ariana Gacsi contributed 11 points for Pompton Lakes (6-3 in conference), including one 3-pointer. Bailey provided a spark from beyond the arc, connecting on four 3-pointers to account for all of her points.
Despite the loss, Hawthorne Christian (5-11) was led by an outstanding all-around performance from Alyssa Ng. She posted a game-high 19 points along with 10 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 blocks, and 3 steals. Gianna Cappello also contributed 9 points for the Defenders. Additionally, Aubrie Johannesen dominated the glass with a game-high 15 rebounds for Hawthorne Christian (1-7 in conference).
The Cardinals pulled away in the second half, outscoring the Defenders 26-16 after intermission. This included a 15-8 advantage in the fourth quarter, which secured Pompton Lakes’ second consecutive victory.
Looking ahead, Pompton Lakes will host Butler at 6 p.m. on February 4. Meanwhile, Hawthorne Christian will travel to face Manchester Regional at 4 p.m. on the same day.
