
Police arrest 38 over murder of Enugu Catholic priest
The Enugu State Police Command has arrested at least 38 suspects in connection with the murder of Rev. Fr. Matthew Eya of the Nsukka Catholic Diocese. The command has also intensified efforts to track down the assailants responsible for the killing.
The command’s spokesman, SP Daniel Ndukwe, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday in Enugu. According to Ndukwe, the Commissioner of Police, Mamman Bitrus Giwa, has ordered an intensified manhunt for the perpetrators of the crime.
Operatives under the Udenu Area Command conducted bush-combing operations and raids on identified black spots. These efforts led to the arrest of 38 suspects, along with the recovery of incriminating exhibits. The suspects are currently undergoing screening.
Meanwhile, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa extended his condolences to the family of the late priest and the Catholic Church. He assured that the Command would leave no stone unturned to ensure the perpetrators are apprehended and brought to justice.
DAILY POST recalls that Rev. Fr. Matthew Eya was killed on the night of September 19, 2025, along Eha-Ndiagu Eha-Etiti Road in the Eha-Alumona community, Nsukka Local Government Area.
