Pokemon GO Forever Friends update introduces Remote Trades
Friendship has always been a big part of the Pokémon GO experience, and Niantic is now taking that idea to the next level with an exciting new tier: Forever Friends. This addition introduces new friendship levels for players to strive toward, offering extra XP along the way. But more importantly, it unlocks a highly requested feature—Remote Trades.
The Forever Friends tier sits above the previous highest tier, Best Friends. Once you reach this new level, you gain access to Remote Trades, allowing you to trade Pokémon with friends without being physically close. However, there are some important restrictions to be aware of. Only one Remote Trade is permitted between each pair of friends, so it’s essential to make your trade count. Additionally, you cannot trade Pokémon caught within the last 30 days, Shadow Pokémon, or Mythical Pokémon remotely. For a complete list of restrictions, be sure to check out the Pokémon GO website.
Alongside the Forever Friends tier, Niantic is introducing a new Friendship Points system designed to encourage ongoing engagement. While it takes 90 points to reach Best Friends, you’ll need 180 points to become Forever Friends. By continuing to exchange gifts or battle together, players can earn additional rewards—and potentially secure an extra Remote Trade.
To help manage trades, players can now tag the Pokémon they’re willing to trade away with a special Remote Trade tag. When a Remote Trade session begins, friends will browse through each other’s wish lists featuring three Pokémon apiece and select the one they’d like to trade.
This update promises to deepen the social aspect of Pokémon GO, making it easier and more rewarding than ever to connect and trade with friends—even from afar. Stay tuned for more details and happy trading!
