PCB revokes NOCs for overseas T20 leagues: Here’s why
**PCB Suspends NOCs for Players Participating in Overseas T20 Leagues**
*By Parth Dhall | September 30, 2025, 05:25 PM*
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced the suspension of all No-Objection Certificates (NOCs) for players taking part in overseas T20 leagues. This decision, revealed by PCB Chief Operating Officer Sumair Ahmad Syed on September 29, affects prominent players including Babar Azam, Shaheen Afridi, Mohammad Rizwan, and others.
### Impact on Players
Pakistani cricketers have been actively participating in several international T20 tournaments such as the Big Bash League and the International League T20 (ILT20). The suspension of NOCs means these players will be restricted from joining overseas leagues until further notice.
This move follows Pakistan’s narrow defeat to India in the final of the 2025 Men’s T20 Asia Cup. Despite reducing India to 20/3 while defending a modest total of 146, Pakistan lost the final match. Notably, Pakistan lost only three matches throughout the tournament—all against India.
### PCB’s Official Statement
The PCB issued a notice stating:
*”With the approval of Chairman PCB, all No Objection Certificates (NOCs) for players with respect to participation in leagues and other out-of-country tournaments are hereby put on hold until further orders.”*
This directive is widely seen as a response to the national team’s overall performance during the Asia Cup.
### Performance-Based NOC System in the Pipeline
Reports indicate that the PCB plans to introduce a performance-based system to regulate the issuance of NOCs in the future. However, specific criteria and guidelines for this system have not been disclosed yet.
Meanwhile, Pakistan’s premier domestic First-Class competition, which was initially scheduled to begin on September 22, has been postponed and is set to start in October. This development aligns with the PCB’s broader focus on strengthening domestic cricket.
### What’s Next?
Details regarding the duration of the NOC suspension, possible exemptions, and other related protocols remain unclear. Fans and players alike are awaiting further announcements from the PCB.

Pakistan’s defeat to India in the Asia Cup final has clearly prompted a strategic reassessment by the PCB. The suspension of overseas T20 league participation underscores the board’s intent to prioritize domestic cricket and enhance national team performance moving forward.
