Patrick Mahomes, Chiefs Get Sharp Warning from NFL Insider Before Broncos Clash
On Thursday’s episode of ESPN’s *First Take*, analyst Dan Orlovsky reiterated that the Denver Broncos remain the team to beat in the AFC West. Currently, Denver holds a strong 7-2 record, while the Kansas City Chiefs lag behind at 5-4 despite being led by star quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
Mahomes has impressive stats this season, with 2,349 passing yards, and the Chiefs rank fourth in points allowed, conceding just 18.4 points per game. However, Orlovsky highlighted that Denver’s defense is particularly dominant this year. The Broncos lead the NFL with 40 sacks—significantly higher than the next closest team, the Detroit Lions, who have 28. They also top the league in quarterback knockdowns (38) and rank second in quarterback pressures (100) and passing touchdowns allowed (eight).
Offensively, second-year quarterback Bo Nix has been a standout for Denver. He has showcased his dual-threat ability, throwing for 1,976 passing yards (10th in the league) and 17 passing touchdowns (tied for third), while limiting turnovers with just six interceptions. Nix has also contributed on the ground with 207 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns. Notably, he has absorbed only nine sacks this season, tied for the lowest among starting QBs alongside the Seattle Seahawks’ Sam Darnold.
Kansas City’s identity over the past two seasons has been its uncanny ability to win one-possession games. However, this year that trend has reversed, with all four of their losses decided by seven points or less. Some key defeats include a 28-21 loss to the Buffalo Bills in Week 9 and a narrow 31-28 loss against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 5. In a competitive division where margins are thin, these close games can often be the difference between making the playoffs and missing out.
Orlovsky’s comments come just ahead of the highly anticipated Week 11 clash between the Chiefs and Broncos at Empower Field at Mile High on Sunday, Nov. 16. This matchup will likely play a critical role in determining playoff seeding in the AFC West and could set the tone for the rest of the season.
Stay tuned as this fierce rivalry continues to develop, and keep an eye on how both teams perform when they meet in what promises to be an electrifying game.
