“Options are still open”- Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone gets real about competing in multiple events leading up to LA Olympics
Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone has expressed her thoughts about competing in multiple events as she aims to participate in the upcoming Olympic Games on home soil. The American athlete shared that several options are open to her, and she plans to actively explore them throughout the upcoming season.
The Olympic gold medalist began the 2025 season with the intention of stepping out of her comfort zone, competing in a wide range of events from the 100m sprint to the 400m hurdles. She highlighted that participating in the 100m and 100m hurdles helped her improve her starts and quickness during the drive phase—skills that have proven beneficial for her performance in the quarter mile.
In a surprising decision at the World Championships, Sydney opted to compete in the 400m flat event instead of the 400m hurdles. She went on to break the American record in the 400m and became the first woman in 40 years to run the distance in under 48 seconds.
Speaking to NBC Sports about the possibility of competing in both the 400m and 400m hurdles at the upcoming Olympics, she said:
“I definitely floated the idea of some sort of a double, what that looks like. I think the options are still open. There’s a lot of different directions you could go with it.”
Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone hopes to continue pushing her limits and achieving greater heights as she competes on the track circuit. Stay tuned for updates as this story develops.
