Nuggets’ Nikola Jokic does best Bo Nix impression with wild full-court pass
Nikola Jokic turned a routine rebound into a Hail Mary during the NBA Cup opener between the Denver Nuggets and the Portland Trail Blazers. Off a scrum under Denver’s rim, the Nuggets star launched a full-court dime to Peyton Watson in stride — the kind of quarterback heave that would make Bo Nix grin. The clip quickly went viral across social media as both teams traded punches throughout the game.
Jokic’s incredible pass wasn’t a one-off. He continued testing Portland’s floor balance with long outlet passes, one of which sprung Watson for a powerful finish through contact. This play adds to Jokic’s growing archive of “did he even see that?” assists — passes that flip the court before defenses can get set.
Despite Jokic’s brilliance, the game’s ending didn’t fall in Denver’s favor. Jerami Grant nailed two crucial free throws with 1.4 seconds left, allowing Portland to escape with a 109-107 victory. Jokic’s 13-foot shot at the buzzer rimmed off, sealing the comeback that Portland built on a dominant 38-26 fourth quarter.
According to ESPN’s box score, Jamal Murray led Denver with 22 points, while Jokic finished just shy of a fifth straight triple-double to open the season, posting 21 points, 14 rebounds, and nine assists. Deni Avdija paced Portland with 23 points.
Denver controlled most of the night but walked away empty-handed. A combination of 19 turnovers and late-game fouls cracked the door open for Portland. Shaedon Sharpe’s critical block and Grant’s clutch free throws ultimately sealed the win. Adding to the challenges, a lengthy clock malfunction in the first quarter disrupted the game’s rhythm.
For the Nuggets, it was a missed opportunity to capitalize on a double-digit fourth-quarter lead. For Portland, it marked a resilient Cup victory that snapped Denver’s three-game winning streak.
