Notre Dame’s Marcus Freeman Sends Clear Message About Jeremiyah Love
The Notre Dame Fighting Irish delivered a statement win, dominating Navy with a blowout 49-10 victory. This impressive performance keeps the Irish firmly within the College Football Playoff (CFP) discussion, especially after they were included in the early CFP bracket revealed earlier this week.
Several individuals stood out in the game, including quarterback CJ Carr, who threw for 218 yards and three touchdowns. Receiver Malachi Fields made notable contributions as well, catching four passes for 94 yards. Carr’s touchdown passes went to KK Smith and Jordan Faison, showcasing a well-rounded offensive attack.
Notre Dame’s ground game was equally significant. Running back Jeremiyah Love achieved 94 yards and two touchdowns on the ground, playing a key role in the team’s victory. Following the game, Love received high praise from head coach Marcus Freeman during the post-game media session.
When asked about Love’s contributions and whether he is a Heisman Trophy candidate, Freeman gave a strong endorsement:
“In my mind, yes, he is. There’s no question about it,” Freeman stated.
“You talk about one of the best players in the country. If he’s not one of them, then it’s hard to believe how many other players are that special,” he added.
“He’s a special player, and he had a great week of prep. He continues to do things that you haven’t seen, but things you know—you’re just not surprised with Jeremiyah Love,” Freeman concluded.
Currently in his third season with the Irish, Love has compiled 894 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns, along with 227 receiving yards and three receiving touchdowns. Many mock drafts consider him a potential first-round pick, possibly going within the top 15 selections in the 2026 NFL Draft.
While Love is listed among the Heisman Trophy candidates, he remains a long shot to win. The current favorite for the prestigious award is Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza, followed by Ohio State’s Julian Sayin and Alabama’s Ty Simpson.
With this latest win, Notre Dame improved their overall record to 7-2 and their home record to 5-1. They remain ranked No. 10 in the nation. According to the theoretical CFP bracket released earlier this week on NCAA.com, Notre Dame’s first-round matchup would be against the BYU Cougars. However, BYU suffered a loss to Texas Tech on Saturday, which could impact CFP projections moving forward.
