Nomad’s land
Call them wandering mystics, if you will. But in vernacular, they are defined by one mighty compelling word: **malang**.
Malangs don’t have a place they’d call home. As such, they are almost nomadic, often camping in small groups next to shrines. They may associate themselves with the Sufis and shrines they are visiting, immersing in the spiritual atmosphere.
They participate in festivals, known as Urs, and may also perform *dhamal*, a devotional dance that expresses their deep connection to the divine.
Since malangs don’t seek material gains and have no steady source of income, they receive their daily meals at the langars—community kitchens—located at the shrines they frequent.
