Nomad’s land

Call them wandering mystics, if you will. In everyday language, they are defined by one mighty compelling word: **malang**.

The malangs don’t have a place they’d call home. As such, they are almost nomadic, often camping in small groups next to shrines. They may associate themselves with the Sufis and shrines they are visiting, embracing a life of spiritual wandering.

These mystics actively participate in festivals, known as *Urs*, and may also perform *dhamal*, a devotional dance that expresses their devotion and connection to the divine.

Since malangs do not seek material gains and have no steady source of income, they rely on the langars—community kitchens—at the shrines to provide their daily meals. Their lives reflect a profound dedication to spirituality, detachment from worldly possessions, and a deep bond with the Sufi traditions they follow.
