Nomad’s land
Call them wandering mystics, if you will. But in vernacular terms, they are defined by one mighty compelling word: malang.
The malangs don’t have a place they’d call home. As such, they are almost nomadic, often camping in small groups next to shrines. They may associate themselves with the Sufis and shrines they visit.
Malangs actively participate in festivals, known as Urs, and may also perform dhamal, a devotional dance. Since they don’t seek material gains and have no steady source of income, they receive their daily meals at the langars located at the shrines.
