Nomad’s land
Call them wandering mystics, if you will. But in vernacular terms, they are defined by one mighty compelling word: malang.
The malangs don’t have a place they’d call home. As such, they lead an almost nomadic lifestyle. Often, they camp in small groups next to shrines and may associate themselves with the Sufis and shrines they visit.
They actively participate in festivals, known as Urs, and may also perform dhamal, a devotional dance expressing their spiritual fervor.
Since they don’t seek material gains and have no steady source of income, malangs rely on the langars at the shrines to get their daily meals.
