Nico Collins’ concussion makes Texans’ brutal night even worse
While moments like Houston Texans’ Will Anderson Jr. scoring a touchdown off a Sam Darnold fumble were highlights, the team still fell to the Seattle Seahawks in another disappointing showing, losing 27-19.
The game also featured another lackluster offensive performance. Besides the Texans being without wide receiver Christian Kirk, the team lost Nico Collins during the game due to a concussion. Houston head coach DeMeco Ryans addressed Collins’ status after the game, saying they’ll know more “as the week goes on.”
“We want to be able to be explosive. We had some opportunities down the field; we just didn’t connect on them,” Ryans said. “So we’ve just got to find a way to do a better job of finishing whatever the play call, executing the play.”
Injuries have taken a toll on Houston’s offense. Along with Collins’ concussion, running back Joe Mixon is also sidelined, highlighting how the offense is not the same as in past seasons.
Quarterback C. J. Stroud threw for 229 yards with a touchdown and an interception in the loss. The interception early in the fourth quarter was the play that led to Collins’ concussion.
Stroud shared his thoughts on Collins’ injury: “I thought he played really well. I got to find a way to get him to touch the ball. That’s just the bottom line. It’s going to be tough. He’s our best player on offense. He’s one of the best players in the league, time and time again.”
“We also got to find ways to get him the ball in better situations. So that starts with me trying to get us in the right looks,” Stroud continued. “Hopefully he’ll be okay, and we have a short week, but if not, we got to just step up in other ways, and, you know, put more on my plate hopefully and try to help us out.”
As Stroud mentioned, Houston faces a short week due to the loss in Seattle coming on a Monday night game. The team is hopeful for positive news on Collins’ condition soon.
The Texans will next face the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday.
