**Mumbai: Four Booked for Feeding Pigeons Near Bandra Lake Despite Court Ban**
The Bandra police have registered a case against four individuals for allegedly feeding pigeons near Bandra Lake in Bandra West on September 18, violating a court order that bans feeding pigeons in the area.
### Details of the Incident
According to the FIR, feeding pigeons near Bandra Lake is prohibited under a court directive. Acting on this, the police filed charges under Sections 270 (public nuisance), 271 (negligent act likely to spread infection of disease dangerous to life), 223 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by a public servant), and 221 (obstructing a public servant in the discharge of public functions) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
The complaint was filed by Yogesh Phalake, 42, Assistant Nuisance Detector Officer of the H/West Ward, on behalf of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). On the morning of September 18, around 11 a.m., Phalake and his colleagues Vijay Yadav and Nilesh Jadhav were patrolling near Bandra Lake when they spotted three individuals feeding pigeons.
The BMC officers approached them and informed them about the court order prohibiting the activity, warning that legal action would follow. While proceedings were underway against these three individuals, a woman arrived at the spot and began feeding the pigeons as well.
Despite being told that feeding pigeons was not allowed, the woman ignored the officers, continued feeding the birds, and argued with them. She later left the scene on her scooter bearing the registration number MH 01 DD 6198.
### Legal Action Taken
Following the incident, the police brought the three men to the Bandra police station and filed complaints against all four persons, including the unidentified woman. They were accused of violating the court order and causing a public nuisance that could potentially spread allergic diseases.
The names of the accused men are:
– Mehtab Shaikh, 27, resident of Nalasopara East
– Nikhil Saroj, 21, resident of Bandra West
– Salam Durgesh Kumar, 22, resident of Bandra West
All three are employed with private companies.
The case highlights the strict enforcement of court orders aimed at maintaining public hygiene and health around Bandra Lake. Authorities have reiterated that feeding pigeons in the area is prohibited to prevent the spread of diseases and maintain cleanliness.
