Milan Momcilovic scores 29 in 88-50 win over Fairleigh Dickinson in season opener
Iowa State kicked off the 2025-2026 season with a strong performance Monday night, dominating Fairleigh Dickinson 88-50 at Hilton Coliseum.
The Cyclones opened the game with a lineup featuring Tamin Lipsey, Josh Jefferson, Milan Momcilovic, Virginia transfer Blake Buchanan, and true freshman Killyan Toure. Toure, a French standout during preseason scrimmages, made his much-anticipated debut.
Despite coming off an injury that sidelined him for the past month, Lipsey looked healthy and energized. He poured in 18 points on 8-of-13 shooting while contributing five assists, five steals, and six rebounds.
Josh Jefferson quietly posted a double-double with 14 points on 5-of-10 shooting and a team-leading ten rebounds across 29 minutes. Meanwhile, freshman Killyan Toure played just nine minutes but made an immediate impact, scoring nine points. His speed in transition and aggressive defense suggest that Coach T. J. Otzelberger will rely on him frequently this season. Toure also nailed a three-pointer in his debut—if he can consistently threaten from distance, it would be a huge boost for the Cyclones.
However, the star of the night was Milan Momcilovic. After a couple of rough scrimmages against Creighton and Northwestern, Momcilovic bounced back with a career-high 29 points on 11-of-16 shooting. He was particularly remarkable from beyond the arc, hitting 7-of-10 three-pointers. As a primary scoring option for this team, seeing Momcilovic put together a performance like this is an excellent sign for the Cyclones.
Next up for Iowa State is a home matchup against Grambling State on Thursday at 7 PM in Hilton Coliseum. The Cyclones will look to build on this impressive start to the season.
