Meghan Markle Reached Out To Thomas Markle Amid Speculations She’ll Continue To Ignore Him
**Meghan Markle Extends Olive Branch to Father After Leg Amputation**
Meghan Markle has reportedly reached out to her father, Thomas Markle Sr., following news of his emergency leg amputation. This gesture marks a significant turn in the Duchess of Sussex’s long-strained relationship with her father, which had been fraught for years, even before her marriage to Prince Harry.
**Official Confirmation and Health Update**
A spokesperson for the Duchess confirmed to *People* magazine that Meghan made contact with her father, who is currently residing in the Philippines. Reports indicate that Thomas Markle Sr. underwent surgery after doctors discovered a blood clot in his leg. His son, Thomas Markle Jr., also confirmed the health scare in a recent interview.
“My dad is being very brave. His foot turned blue and then black. It happened very quickly. I took him to a local hospital, and they did some scans and an ultrasound and said the leg had to be amputated,” Thomas Jr. said. He added that Thomas Sr. will soon undergo another procedure to remove a clot in his thigh.
Thomas’s other child, Samantha Markle, also spoke about their father’s condition. “He is a strong man, but he has been through so much. My father has been through two heart attacks, a stroke, and an earthquake,” she shared.
**Prince Harry’s Support and Encouragement**
Before Meghan reached out, reports suggested that Prince Harry was encouraging his wife to contact her estranged father. “Harry knows estrangement. He made peace with his dad; now he wants Meghan to have the same chance. He’s been saying, ‘Don’t wait, do it now,’” a source revealed.
The source continued, explaining that the Duke of Sussex tried to show Meghan what reconciliation looks like and had hoped she would take the opportunity to reconnect with her father.
**Royal Commentators’ Reaction**
Prior to the news of Meghan’s contact with her father, some royal commentators doubted she would make any effort to reconnect. On TalkTV, host Kevin O’Sullivan and guest Kinsey Schofield predicted Meghan would remain distant even after her father’s leg amputation.
“You think she will not even now show a bit of humanity and reach out to him?” O’Sullivan asked.
“No. I think that if she is surrounded by these women like Oprah Winfrey who are glamorizing going no contact with your family or glamorizing victimhood. These women are sitting around with each other, sharing their ‘me tales’ about family members that did them wrong, she probably has a support system around her that are encouraging her to ignore the headlines,” Schofield responded.
Schofield went on to criticize Meghan for sharing a video of Prince Harry with Stephen Colbert on the same day her father’s health crisis made headlines.
**Why Meghan Markle Cut Ties With Her Father**
Meghan was once very close to her father, especially in her younger years. Their relationship deteriorated ahead of Meghan and Harry’s royal wedding in 2018, when Thomas Sr. admitted to posing for several staged paparazzi photos for payment. Meghan was also concerned about her father’s ongoing conversations with the press.
In an attempt to protect her family’s privacy and well-being, Meghan ultimately decided to cut off communications with her father entirely.
**A Turning Point for the Family?**
With Meghan taking the step to reach out during her father’s health crisis, this could mark a new chapter in their complicated relationship. Royal watchers and fans alike will be keen to see whether reconciliation is possible in the future for the Markle family.
