Mavericks Trade Idea Ships Out Anthony Davis for $120 Million All-Star
The Anthony Davis experiment with the Dallas Mavericks is officially over. Now that the architect of the Luka Doncic trade, Nico Harrison, is gone and fired, it’s time for the Mavericks to start cleaning up the mess he left behind. The rebuild begins with building the team around No. 1 overall pick Cooper Flagg, who has arguably received a raw deal during his rookie season amid all the negativity surrounding Dallas.
The Mavericks have no choice but to start fresh. Finding the right balance between veteran presence and young talent is a tough line to walk for any team, especially one that recently traded away arguably a top-three player in the league. Moving forward, Dallas needs to focus on accumulating draft capital and acquiring young players who fit Flagg’s timeline.
### Mavericks Trade Proposal: Sending Anthony Davis to the Miami Heat
One intriguing trade idea, first proposed by SB Nation, suggests the Mavericks could send Anthony Davis to the Miami Heat in exchange for a package of young players, including All-Star guard Tyler Herro.
**Miami Heat receive:**
– Anthony Davis
**Dallas Mavericks receive:**
– Tyler Herro
– Kel’el Ware
– Simone Fontecchio
– 2029 first-round pick
This hypothetical deal would be a potential home run for Dallas, turning Anthony Davis into a new foundation of youth and upside. Vishwesha Kumar of Fadeaway World highlights the positives of acquiring these young talents:
> “For Dallas, this deal would represent a soft rebuild rather than a teardown. Tyler Herro, still just 25, would instantly become the team’s leading perimeter scorer, offering three-point shooting and secondary playmaking next to Cooper Flagg,” Kumar wrote.
> “Kel’el Ware, the 7-foot rookie out of Indiana, brings upside as a rim-protecting big who can stretch the floor. Simone Fontecchio, a versatile forward with solid shooting touch, adds depth and experience.”
> “The 2029 first-round pick, meanwhile, is essential. Dallas currently lacks control of its first-rounders in 2027, 2028, and 2030, and ownership has made it clear they want to restock their future assets.”
Herro (25) and Ware (21) would be perfect complements for Flagg, solidifying a young core with room to grow. Dallas would still have some veterans on the roster, such as Kyrie Irving, Klay Thompson, and Daniel Gafford, who could be moved later to acquire additional premium assets.
### Would the Heat Make the Deal?
For Miami, this trade feels like a no-brainer. In a weakened Eastern Conference, pairing Davis with Bam Adebayo in the frontcourt would significantly boost the Heat’s competitiveness. Although trading Herro would mean losing some scoring, Miami has been shopping their All-Star guard for years, indicating they might be ready for this move.
The biggest concern remains Davis’ health. Since arriving in Dallas, he has played in just 14 of a possible 46 games — a less-than-ideal situation. However, a change of scenery and the warm climate of South Florida might help Davis get his body back on track.
### Looking Ahead
With Nico Harrison finally out of Dallas, this trade scenario doesn’t seem far-fetched. Both teams would get what they want: the Mavericks start fresh with a rebuild focused on Cooper Flagg, while the Heat return to their status as Eastern Conference contenders.
It will be interesting to see how the Mavericks’ front office navigates this rebuilding phase and whether a trade involving Anthony Davis and Tyler Herro could become reality in the near future.
