Manchester Mall manhunt underway as classes resume at UEI College
FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) — A manhunt is currently underway at Manchester Mall as Fresno Police search the area and review surveillance footage for a shooting suspect who remains at large.
On Thursday, both Manchester Mall and UEI College operated under normal hours. The vocational and trade school confirmed that day and night classes have resumed, with additional security measures in place following Wednesday night’s shooting.
Around 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Fresno Police officers responded to reports of a shooting in the UEI College parking lot, located within Manchester Mall in Central Fresno. Upon arrival, officers found a 25-year-old man suffering from a single gunshot wound to his left upper leg. He was transported to Community Regional Medical Center, treated, and released late Thursday. The school confirmed the victim is one of its students.
According to police, the suspect is a man in his mid-20s who opened fire from inside a dark-colored car with two other individuals inside. The investigation remains ongoing as officers work to determine the motive behind the shooting.
“We have information that the victim had been involved in a disturbance earlier in the day with a subject that he knows,” said Fresno Police Sergeant Diana Trueba Vega. Investigators say the two parties had gone their separate ways with no resolution.
Just before the shooting, the pair met up again and an argument escalated. “This time, the other party was accompanied by two additional males. There was a physical altercation and during the physical altercation, one of those additional males pulled out a firearm and struck the victim,” Sgt. Trueba Vega explained.
In the daylight following the incident, a single bullet hole was visible in a nearby vacant building—remnants of the chaotic shooting several hours earlier.
“This incident was a targeted incident; these people knew each other. They had some type of disturbance earlier in the day, so it’s not a random incident,” Sgt. Trueba Vega added.
A spokesperson for UEI College stated that the suspect is believed not to be affiliated with the school.
Fresno Police are urging anyone with information or surveillance footage related to the incident to come forward. Meanwhile, the search for the suspect and others involved continues.
