Maine issues recall on cannabis vape cartridges
The Maine Office of Cannabis Policy has issued a mandatory recall for a brand of cannabis vape cartridges due to safety concerns. The affected products are Yani adult-use cartridges produced by NorCo Outdoor Cannabis, which tested positive for unsafe levels of the pesticide chlorfenapyr.
Inhaling cannabis containing unsafe levels of this pesticide can cause symptoms such as fever, sweating, nausea, vomiting, and an altered mental status, according to the Office of Cannabis Policy. The investigation into these cartridges began after a consumer complaint reported an adverse health reaction to the product.
The recall specifically applies to Yani 0.5-gram and 1-gram live resin vape cartridges under the strain name Watermelon Chimera. These products were sold between July 10 and October 16 at over 20 recreational cannabis stores across Maine.
The impacted batch number is 1A40D0300006145000011115, which can be found on the back of the packaging.
Affected Retailers:
– Belvidere Farm in Rockland
– Cannabis Cured in Bangor, Bethel, Carrabassett Valley, Damariscotta, Eliot, Fairfield, Portland, Stratton, and Thomaston
– Cannabis Haven in Auburn, Augusta, Lewiston, and Waterville
– Garden Lites 420 in Peru
– GreenLife Guilford in Guilford
– GreenLife Milo in Milo
– Hive, LLC in Chelsea
– OMG Cannabis Co. in Portland
– Royal Leaf Apothecary in Presque Isle
– The Joint.me in Portland
Consumers who have purchased these cartridges are advised to either return the product to the retailer where it was bought or dispose of it safely.
For your safety, please check your vape cartridges for the batch number and strain name before use. If you experience any adverse effects after using the product, seek medical attention promptly.
