**Cyclone ‘Shakti’ Warning Issued for Maharashtra Districts by IMD**
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a cyclone warning for some districts of Maharashtra, anticipating high to moderate cyclone conditions from October 3 to 7. The precautionary advisory covers Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg districts.
According to the IMD release, wind speeds of 45-55 kmph, gusting up to 65 kmph, are expected along the North Maharashtra coast between October 3 and 5. These wind speeds may increase depending on the cyclone’s intensity. Sea conditions are forecast to be very rough, with rough seas prevailing along the northern Maharashtra coast until October 5.
Fishermen have been strongly advised to avoid venturing into the sea during this period to ensure their safety.
Heavy to very heavy rainfall is also expected in the interior parts of Maharashtra, particularly in East Vidarbha and parts of Marathwada. The intense cloud formation and moisture infiltration into the atmosphere raise the possibility of flooding in the low-lying areas of North Konkan.
In response, the Maharashtra government has issued strict instructions to prepare for the cyclone. District administrations have been directed to activate their disaster management systems immediately. This includes preparing evacuation plans for residents in coastal and low-lying areas, issuing timely public advisories, advising against sea travel, and ensuring overall safety measures during the heavy rains.
Residents are urged to stay alert, follow official updates, and take all necessary precautions as advised by authorities during this cyclone event.
