Lockheed Martin’s subsidiary, Sikorsky, has secured a significant contract from the US Navy worth nearly $11 billion. The deal involves the production of up to 99 CH-53K King Stallion helicopters, marking the largest order ever placed for this advanced model.
**Contract Details and Delivery Timeline**
This five-year agreement allows the US government to purchase the helicopters directly for the Marine Corps or on behalf of foreign military customers. Sikorsky has committed to delivering the CH-53K helicopters between 2029 and 2034.
The CH-53K King Stallion is a heavy-lift helicopter designed to transport troops, supplies, and equipment efficiently. It is powered by three engines, each producing up to 7,500 shaft horsepower. Its advanced capabilities make it an ideal choice for military operations requiring substantial lifting and personnel transportation.
**Recent Contract Wins and Financial Challenges**
Just last month, Sikorsky secured a $1.6 billion deal to supply five Seahawk maritime helicopters and two jets to New Zealand. Despite these significant contract wins, Lockheed Martin reported an 80% drop in profit in July, posting a pre-tax loss of $1.6 billion. This loss was primarily attributed to setbacks in a classified program within its Aeronautics business unit.

This major contract win cements Sikorsky’s role as a key supplier of advanced military helicopters, even as Lockheed Martin navigates financial challenges in other areas of its business.
