“Legacy going trucking Jim?”: NASCAR fans react as Jimmie Johnson’s throwback photo spurs Truck Series rumors
Seven-time NASCAR Cup Series champion and legend Jimmie Johnson recently shared a throwback photo of himself in a Truck Series-style rig featuring the #81 truck on his official X account. The reaction on NASCAR forums and social media was immediate, sparking a wave of speculation among fans.
Many responded with optimism and a healthy dose of “what if?” Some speculated that Johnson might be gearing up to make his second career Truck Series start in the 2026 season. Others suggested that his team, Legacy Motor Club, might be planning to field an entry in NASCAR’s third-tier series.
Johnson’s X post showcased a snapshot of his 2008 Truck Series entry, but it included no caption or explicit announcement. The fans didn’t hold back in the comments section:
– “Legacy going trucking JIM?”
– “I’d love to see you run a truck again.”
– “Trucks at Legacy or you going to race a Ram at @KauligRacing?”
– “Jimmie truck race in the big 2026?!”
– “@MonsterMile May 15th 2026 🤔🤔🤔”
– “Where is that driving suit today? If you still have it and sponsorship was available, would you wear it for a Truck Series race?”
In his illustrious career, Jimmie Johnson has made only one NASCAR Truck Series appearance, which took place at Bristol Motor Speedway in 2018. Driving the Lowe’s-sponsored #81 Silverado truck for Randy Moss Motorsports, Johnson started ninth but finished 34th.
In recent years, Johnson has shifted his focus more toward his role as owner of Legacy Motor Club (LMC). He has also made occasional part-time appearances in the NASCAR Cup Series since 2023.
### Jimmie Johnson Announces His 2026 NASCAR Racing Plans
Adding to the excitement, Johnson revealed details of his 2026 NASCAR schedule. On Wednesday, November 5, he announced that he will drive the #84 Toyota for Legacy Motor Club in the inaugural Cup Series race in San Diego at Naval Base Coronado next season.
Reflecting on the significance of racing in his hometown, Johnson told NASCAR:
> “Growing up just miles from San Diego, I dreamed about racing here in a NASCAR vehicle someday. To come back home, compete in front of my community, the military, my family, and friends, and do it with Carvana and Legacy Motor Club — this is one of those full-circle experiences you never forget.”
This year, Johnson made two Cup Series starts, competing in the season-opening Daytona 500 and the Coca-Cola 600. He finished an impressive third at Daytona and 40th at Charlotte.
As 2026 approaches, fans eagerly await to see whether Johnson will return to the Trucks or continue to focus on his Cup Series endeavors. Whatever the future holds, Jimmie Johnson’s legacy in NASCAR remains indisputable.
