Landynn Hodges signs to play volleyball at Freed-Hardeman University after historic career at Holcomb
HOLCOMB, Mo. With the stroke of her pen, all of Landynn Hodges’ dreams turned to reality. On Wednesday, Nov. 19, the 6’1” middle blocker for Holcomb’s volleyball team officially signed a letter of intent to continue her academic and athletic career at Freed-Hardeman University. After signing her letter, Hodges looked up at the gym filled with family, friends and fans and gave a smile. “I felt excited and really loved in that moment,” Hodges said. “It was really cool seeing everyone who has ever supported and loved me be there. It was a really special moment.” Hodges closed out a historic four-year career with the Hornets this Fall with a four-peat district title victory. She, along with the rest of her senior teammates, became the first squad in Holcomb history to win four consecutive district titles. They etched their names in the record book as the most winningest team in program history as well, completing the four-year stretch with a 92-44-5 overall record. Hodges exceeded two major career milestones in her senior season. Exploiting her height at the net, she was able to capture over 1, 000 career kills and over 200 career blocks. After having just 70 kills her freshman year, she would jump to 238 kills during her sophomore campaign and 292 in her junior season. She doubled these numbers for her senior run, putting down 491 kills this season to finish with 1, 091 total kills in her high school career. Similarly, after only having eight blocks as a freshman, she recorded 65 as a sophomore and 57 as a junior. This year, she had 78 blocks in her senior season to finish with 208 total. “It’s been a great four years,” Hodges said. “It’s definitely had its bumps in the road, but it’s been fun. This is a great program and I’ve had great teammates.” Along with those two milestones, Hodges also completed nearly 300 digs in her four years at Holcomb, picking up a 90 this season. Her senior year was also her best from the service line as she recorded 42 aces, a huge jump after having just one ace last year as a junior. Her increase in play was a testament to her hard work and proof she is ready for the next level. While head coach Matt Casper is sad to see Hodges leave the Holcomb program, her is excited to see the next chapter of her journey. “I think the world of her,” Casper said. “She’s had a great career here and I’m glad we’re able to celebrate this moment with her. This was a special group of girls we had and now she has a special opportunity, so I’m excited for her and cannot wait to see what happens when she gets to Tennessee.” For Hodges, one of the things she is most excited about is reuniting with her former teammate Chloe Hendrix at Freed-Hardeman. Hendrix signed to play with the Lions after completing her high school career at Holcomb last year. She just closed out her rookie season in Tennessee, aiding her team to an 18-16 record. Making 20 appearances in her first year, Hendrix recorded 32 digs as a defensive specialist for the team. “I’m very excited to be with her again,” Hodges said. “This season was not the same without her. It’s like a part of the team was missing without her, so it’s exciting to have an opportunity to be on the court and play with her again.” While she prepares for her college journey, Hodges doesn’t want to forget about her time at Holcomb. She wants her accomplishments to be a testament to all future Hornets; anything is possible. “If you have a goal, believe you can do it,” Hodges said. “I didn’t think I would be here, so just keep pursuing that goal. Never think too small because it’s possible.”.
