Klay Thompson hits crazy trick shot before Jazz showdown
The Dallas Mavericks came into their game against the Utah Jazz on Saturday looking to extend their current two-game win streak. During pregame warmups, Mavericks veteran Klay Thompson appeared ready to go, impressing onlooking fans with a spectacular shot.
Thompson took a sweeping hook shot from 3-point range in the corner during the Mavericks’ warmups, and the ball found nothing but the bottom of the net. In a season that’s been anything but easy for the Mavericks, they’ll need effort like that from Thompson in order to keep the momentum going.
The Mavericks entered the game with a 17-26 record, sitting in 12th place in the Western Conference standings. Star big man Anthony Davis is currently sidelined due to a hand injury, adding to the team’s challenges. Amid these struggles, Thompson has been a steady presence as he adjusts to a reserve role.
So far this season, Thompson has appeared in 39 games, including eight starts, averaging just over 22 minutes per game. He’s contributing 11.7 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 1.4 assists per outing, with shooting splits of 38.4% from the field, 37% from beyond the arc, and 71.4% from the free-throw line.
Selected as the No. 11 overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft, Thompson is now in his 13th season in the league. He missed the entire 2019-20 and 2020-21 seasons recovering from both an ACL and an Achilles injury, making his current role all the more impressive.
This year marks Thompson’s second season with the Mavericks after signing with the team as a free agent in the 2024 offseason. Prior to that, he spent his entire career with the Golden State Warriors, where he was a driving force behind four championships in 2015, 2017, 2018, and 2022.
Thompson joined the Mavericks as they were coming off a Finals appearance, but the bewildering trade of Luka Doncic dramatically changed the trajectory of the franchise. As the Mavericks navigate this new chapter, Thompson’s leadership and skill will be crucial in shaping their future success.
