Kevin Love Backpedals After Mocking Chauncey Billups and Terry Rozier’s Arrests
Kevin Love is backpedaling after initially mocking the recent arrests of Chauncey Billups and Terry Rozier. Following a conversation with Damian Lillard, Love now acknowledges that the situation is far from a laughing matter.
Love, who currently plays for the Utah Jazz, shared his immediate reaction to the bombshell news in an Instagram post on Thursday, shortly after the FBI arrested the Trail Blazers coach and Miami Heat guard amid a gambling scandal. In his post, Love published an edited image featuring Billups and Rozier’s faces superimposed onto the infamous “Coldplay couple” — a pair caught being cuddly on camera at a concert. The caption read “NO (Draft) KINGS!!!”
While some followers found the post humorous, others were not amused. Damian Lillard himself responded in the comments, calling it “Weak ass s***.”
Love, 37, eventually took down the post and later explained that he had spoken with Lillard, who helped him gain perspective on the gravity of the situation. In an Instagram Story, Love wrote:
“Spoke to Dame and he opened my eyes to this being a real-life situation for two of my former teammates and brothers. I took a particular post down because we all know they are going through it. As are their collective families.”
Details of the Arrests
Chauncey Billups was arrested on Thursday in connection with an illegal poker operation linked to multiple crime families in New York. Court documents indicated that Billups allegedly provided inside information about the Portland Trail Blazers to a bettor during 2023.
On the same day, Terry Rozier was taken into custody for his involvement in illegal sports betting and for allegedly using inside information obtained from NBA players and coaches. One allegation suggests that Rozier faked an injury to exit a game early, allowing associates to place large bets on his performance.
The repercussions of these arrests continue to unfold, highlighting the serious implications of illegal gambling activities within professional sports.
