John Camden scored 22 points as California opened the season with an 87-60 victory over Cal State Bakersfield.
Camden made 7 of 11 shots, including three 3-pointers, and was perfect from the free-throw line, hitting all five attempts for the Golden Bears. Dai Dai Ames contributed 18 points on 9-for-15 shooting, while Justin Pippen and Lee Dort each added 15 points for Cal.
In the first half, Camden scored nine points to help the Golden Bears build a 37-26 lead. He was 2-for-6 from 3-point range before the break, while his teammates struggled from beyond the arc, going 0-for-10. For the Roadrunners, Dailin Smith scored 10 first-half points and made four of their nine baskets.
