Joel Embiid full participant in ‘heavy’ Sixers practice with opening night three days away
CAMDEN, N.J. — Joel Embiid was a full participant in the Sixers’ practice on Sunday morning, the team announced. Head coach Nick Nurse later described it as “a pretty heavy day” for Embiid as he continues to get back into game shape.
Embiid played in his first preseason game since 2023 on Friday night, logging about 20 minutes across four stints in three quarters. He was largely very effective, scoring 14 points along with eight assists, seven rebounds, and three steals. However, the primary focus remained on how Embiid’s troubled left knee responded to his first game action in nearly eight months, which was far more important than his stats alone.
The Sixers will kick off the 2025-26 regular season in Boston on Wednesday night. The team then has two days off before its home opener against the Charlotte Hornets on Saturday. Embiid appears to be on the verge of suiting up for opening night, providing a major boost of hope and relief for the team and its fans.
Meanwhile, Paul George was also a full participant in Sunday’s practice. Despite this, it still seems unlikely that the nine-time All-Star will be ready to play in Boston.
Stay tuned for more updates as the Sixers prepare to start their season.
