Jets’ Aaron Glenn calls out ‘unfair’ Justin Fields criticism after first win
The New York Jets are finally in the win column, earning a memorable 39-38 victory Sunday over the Cincinnati Bengals. Entering the game with an 0-7 record, the Jets traveled to the Queen City facing the likelihood of an eighth consecutive loss as they trailed 31-16 after three quarters.
However, the team rallied behind beleaguered quarterback Justin Fields, mounting an impressive comeback for the win. The victory sparked a huge celebration on the sidelines when the clock reached triple zero. Teammates enthusiastically congratulated Fields, pounding him on the back, hugging him, and even celebrating alongside him during his live post-game television interview.
Jets head coach Aaron Glenn notched his first victory with the team and took the opportunity to defend Fields, who had faced criticism from team owner Woody Johnson and others in the days leading up to the Bengals game. Glenn expressed clear respect for Fields both as a quarterback and as an individual.
“Who he is as a person, his faith, and the way he goes about his business—he was primed to be able to handle situations like this,” Glenn said, according to Jets beat writer Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic. “It’s so unfair to him that he gets criticized so much.”
### Jets Dominate Fourth Quarter to Secure Victory
The Jets scored three touchdowns in the final quarter to complete their comeback. Running back Breece Hall was a dynamic force, scoring two rushing touchdowns and throwing an option pass for the winning touchdown.
Fields contributed with a two-point conversion run following the first touchdown and successfully passed for a two-point conversion after the second touchdown. He delivered his best game of the year, completing 21 of 32 passes for 244 yards and one touchdown without throwing an interception.
Hall had an outstanding performance on the ground, rushing for 133 yards on 18 carries, averaging 7.4 yards per attempt. The previously sluggish Jets offense exploded for a total of 502 yards against a yielding Bengals defense.
Additionally, the Jets controlled the clock with a time of possession advantage of 33:40 to 26:20 over Cincinnati, helping secure the hard-fought victory.
